Artist statement: On the prairie, trees and plants hold the soil. Some species are shallow growers without deep roots. They do not last. Only those with deep roots stay and withstand the trials and tribulations of prairie life. After using the Nebraska winter snows to hand dye the fabric, I study the resulting patterns and discover the “pictures” that emerge much like the childhood game of finding cloud animals.
